Our COVID-19 Safety and Health Measures
Thank you very much for your continued support of Karameller through this crisis. Since we continue to provide happiness and joy by shipping our delicious candy to households all over Canada, we wanted to reassure you of the measures we're taking to remain safe, healthy, and to ensure that every pacakge we ship is being handled with the utmost care and caution.
Food handling: Prior to our store closure, we carefully packaged and sealed all our existing open candy into smaller packages (~100g) to ensure we were reducing possible contact as much as possible. Currently we are keeping all candy in their factory containers and packing our orders from factory containers directly, to limit the amount of transfer for candy. We pack and heat-seal each candy individually for shipping.
Store closure: Our store closed to customers on March 18 ahead of government recommendations, to ensure we help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to reduce the likelihood of coming in contact with it through our location. We are committed to doing our part in flattening the curve, but most critically to keep our loved ones, staff, and customers safe and healthy.
Dec 17, 2020 Update: We have closed our Yaletown location permanently, but will continue to offer local pickup in partnership with Fine Finds Boutique.
Frequent hand-washing: before/after work and before/after packing each order, frequent hand-washing has always been a standard at Karameller, and we continue to strictly follow this crucial protocol.
Utensils: We have always provided fresh utensils for each customer to use when they visit us. We are continuing this practise through our order packing protocol as well. Each order packed is done so with fresh utensils, which are then washed to ensure no one order is sharing utensils during the packing process.
Surface cleaning and disinfection: Even while the store is closed, we are carrying out daily surface cleaning and disinfection, especially door handles, counters, and candy bin lids.
Limited personnel: Only our owner Louise, who is healthy and has not presented any COVID-19 symptoms, is packing orders to ensure we can maintain a strict "chain of contact" in the store.
: Although we have not been able to obtain definitive information on whether COVID-19 can be transmitted through food, the current data strongly suggests that it's very difficult for COVID-19 to be transmitted through food or food packaging. We continue to monitor all possible scientific outlets to ensure we are following all guidelines and protocols.
